Sturgis

Sturgis

A small town of about 6,600 people, Sturgis is best known for the annual motorcycle rally that descends upon the community every summer.

As many as half a million bikers ride through town each August, bringing big name concerts and celebrities along with them for the 10-day event. But for most of the year, Sturgis is a quiet town nestled in the foothills of the Black Hills along Interstate 90.

To the east lies Bear Butte, a 1,253-foot mountain that's sacred to the Cheyenne and Lakota peoples. To the west lies Boulder Canyon and the town of Deadwood. To the north is Spearfish, and Rapid City is only about a half-hour's drive south along the interstate.

Historic Fort Meade - home to a regional VA hospital - is just east of the city.
